Remarks on the different measures of center:

• The mean is sensitive to the influence of a few extreme observations.
• The median is not affected by the presence of a few extreme observations.
• If a distribution is exactly symmetric, the mean and the median will be the same.
• If the distribution is almost symmetric, the mean and the median will be close to one another.
• If the distribution is skewed to the right, mean > median. If the distribution is skewed to the left, mean < median.
