Random Variables
Definition: A random variable is a variable that is defined to take on a numeric value for each outcome of an experiment.
Examples:
- Flip a coin 4 times, let X = number of heads observed.
X = 0, 1, 2, 3 , 4.
- Flip a coin until the first head occurs, let Y = number of attempts required until the first head occurs.
Y = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, …..
