2. Histograms
- Used for displaying the distribution of quantitative variables which have a large number of observations.
Method:
- Divide the range (i.e. the largest value – smallest value) that the variable takes on into classes of equal width. These classes will be recorded on the horizontal axis. Their width is called the binwidth.
- Construct a bar over each class that depicts the count (frequency) of observations that fall into that class or the percentage (relative frequency) of observations that fall into that class.
